May 27, 2017 - Run for the Red White & Blue 5K

The Chennault Aviation and Military Museum was host to the fifth annual Run for the Red, White and Blue on Saturday, May 27th, 2017.

Once again, crowds came to participate in what is becoming the most popular race in our area. The number of participants increased again this year. The decorations included Plunk's flag draped massive recovery vehicle, a flag draped Fire Department Ladder Truck, Jumping Houses for the kids, and Carrier Drive lined with American flags all the way from the Museum to Central Avenue. Benny Evans and the Chevron Dealers delivered a large donation to the Museum and, with the other contributions, once again the Museum's operating funds received a significant boost. The only unhappy time we experienced was when we learned one of the runners had collapsed on the route and had to be taken to the hospital.

It is with great sadness the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum announces the death of former Marine Sgt. Billy Simmons, who had run the race in previous years, and was once again serving his country as he honored the friends he lost while serving in the Vietnam war.  Along the route, this decorated Marine collapsed during the race and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, and at age 74, he passed from us. The staff and board members of CAMM, along with those affiliated with the race, extend their heartfelt sympathies and prayers to his family.
